Weekly Reflection: September 30

Reporters: Julia and Allison

We took apart a Dyson vacuum.

We built river tables and saw what would shapes the river.

This week was a very fun week! One of the things we did this week was building river tables. We did this project to study the parts of a river and tested how erosion would effect the river with different variables. The variables we tested were the slope, building a dam, testing the amount of water, and putting rocks in the river as obstructions. We made Explain Everything recordings. The first Explain Everything was about the parts of a river (delta, river bank, river bed, mouth, and source). The second  recording was about how the variable the groups tested affected the river. It was very, very fun!!

Another cool project we did was taking apart a Dyson vacuum head. This was called reverse engineering. We were divided into 7 groups of 3. We had a star-tipped screwdriver, we had a cup to hold parts and screws in, and we had a small plastic coin. We took out 4 pieces. It was very fun!!!

The last thing we did was design a class robot. We are building it because the whole school is reading a book called The Wild Robot. Our class robot is a refrigerator to freeze your various drinks. His name is Mr. Cool. A class robot is not actually a real robot, it's made out of recycled objects that students brought in. the objects are supposed to represent you!

It was a very fun week!
