We took apart a Dyson vacuum.

We built river tables and saw what would shapes the river.

This week was a very fun week! One of the things we did this week was building river tables. We did this project to study the parts of a river and tested how erosion would effect the river with different variables. The variables we tested were the slope, building a dam, testing the amount of water, and putting rocks in the river as obstructions. We made Explain Everything recordings. The first Explain Everything was about the parts of a river (delta, river bank, river bed, mouth, and source). The second  recording was about how the variable the groups tested affected the river. It was very, very fun!!

Another cool project we did was taking apart a Dyson vacuum head. This was called reverse engineering. We were divided into 7 groups of 3. We had a star-tipped screwdriver, we had a cup to hold parts and screws in, and we had a small plastic coin. We took out 4 pieces. It was very fun!!!

The last thing we did was design a class robot. We are building it because the whole school is reading a book called The Wild Robot. Our class robot is a refrigerator to freeze your various drinks. His name is Mr. Cool. A class robot is not actually a real robot, it's made out of recycled objects that students brought in. the objects are supposed to represent you!

It was a very fun week!

Weekly Reflection September 23

Reporters: Julian and Abi

This week we started our first Science unit. We are learning about the Earth's changing surface and landforms like mountains, valleys, and canyons.  Next week we get to build river tables!

We also are learning to summarize books for the Forty Book Challenge using Instagram, Pinterest, texting, Twitter and Facebook formats.

In writing we've got some Wexcellent writing. Mrs. Cioni selects good phrases from students' writing and shares them with the class.  We talk as a class about what stands out in the writing. Some people put some good word choice.

Pokemon is the new hit.  In Art we Gotta Draw 'Em, All!  We get to make really big Pokemon cards. We've created some creative new ones like TreeStumper and Snowball. In our classroom, we've got some Poke balls that our teacher hands out if she sees classmates doing something well.

Infographic posters about us?! SO FUN!!

Gymnastics and Hollywood?! AWESOME!!!!!!

This week in class:
We learned about longitude, latitude, physical features, and geometric terms. For longitude we used the strategy thinking how the word LONG is in the longitude to remember that it means it goes the long way. We used a strategy to help us remember latitude- ''The FLAT lines are the LAT lines.''

We also made infographics about ourselves. An infographic poster is where you can use pictures and words to share information. On our posters we typed down a couple of things about ourselves like goals for the new year, hobbies, things that we did over the summer, and our favorite things.

We played the yellow card game. It was very fun.
